DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

– An understanding of the nuts and bolts of good journalism practices (i.e. fact-checking and copy-editing basics, correct sourcing methods, etc.)
– A deep understanding of contemporary African culture and trends OR very good research skills
– A strong eye for visuals (writers are responsible for sourcing story art)
– A generalist sensibility and proven experience producing quality content across a variety of subjects
– Exceptional skills in writing, editing, and packaging stories that are clicky and conversational, yet informative and accurate
– Experienced with WordPress
– Experienced with SEO (Yoast SEO)
– Use SEO and analytics to inform questions that the content needs to answer or info/education content needs to provide for our readers
– Basic Image Editing skills (familiar with Canva a plus)
– Strong research and sourcing skills
– Excellent communication skills
– Excellent command of English grammar
– Proofreading and editing skills
